Meghan Markle was said to be “obsessed” with the Palace making a statement on her feud with Kate Middleton in the row over the flower girls’ dress fitting, a new book claims.
The rumour had circulated that the new Princess of Wales was moved to tears during a fitting for Princess Charlotte ahead of Meghan and Harry's 2018 wedding. During her infamous Oprah interview Meghan hit back at the story, claiming it was the other way about and it was her who was made to cry by Kate, writes The Mirror.
A new book called Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, by Valentine Low claims Meghan “became obsessed” after the incident for the Palace to put the record straight. An extract from the publication, featured on Mail Online, read: “They (the Palace) were equally adamant it would be a serious mistake to start briefing about personal stories relating to differences between members of the Royal Family.
“Not only did they not want to brief against other royals, but they feared it would create a precedent, making it harder in future for them to avoid commenting on personal tittle-tattle. This became a major point of contention between Meghan and her media advisers.”
During the Sussex’s Windsor wedding in 2018, Princess Charlotte was one of the flower girls alongside Meghan's goddaughters Rylan and Remi Litt, best friend Jessica Mulroney's daughter Ivy and Prince Harry's goddaughters Zalie Warren and Florence van Cutsem. In an incident which has never been fully explained it was later claimed Meghan made Kate cry over a row over the dresses.
However, during the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah in 2021 Meghan fired back and claimed the then Duchess of Cambridge had made her cry - but she had forgiven her. She told the talk show host: “What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do. But that happened to me.
“The people who were part of our wedding going to our comms team and saying, 'I know this didn’t happen.' I don’t have to tell them what actually happened. But also I think a lot of it, that was fed into by the media and look I would hope that she would have wanted that corrected and maybe in the same way that the palace wouldn’t let anybody else negate it, they wouldn’t let her because she’s a good person.
"I think so much of what I have seen play out is this idea of polarity, where if you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her. You don’t need to hate me."
