Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrive at Queen's funeral dressed in black

Meghan Markle has joined the rest of the royal family at Westminster Abbey to say her final farewell to the Queen.

The Duchess of Sussex arrived at the historic building in a car with the Countess of Wessex, while her husband Prince Harry walked in the procession behind his grandmother's coffin.

Meghan is dressed all in black and entered Westminster Abbey a few steps behind Kate Middleton, with the Countess of Wessex between the pair.

The former Suits actress donned a pair of pearl earrings in touching tribute to the Queen, who was a fan of pearls.

The Duchess of Sussex and her in-laws walked behind the monarch's coffin as it was carried through Westminster Abbey by eight pallbearers.

The Sussexes joined King Charles, Queen Camilla, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, the Wessexes, Prince Andrew, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and several other of the Queen's loved-ones for today's religious ceremony.

In his sermon at the funeral, the Archbishop of Canterbury told mourners the "grief" felt around the world over her death "arises from her abundant life and loving service".

He added: "She was joyful, present to so many, touching a multitude of lives."

The Most Rev Justin Welby said: "People of loving service are rare in any walk of life. Leaders of loving service are still rarer. But in all cases those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power and privileges are forgotten.

"The grief of this day - felt not only by the late Queen's family but all round the nation, Commonwealth and world - arises from her abundant life and loving service, now gone from us."

He added: "We will all face the merciful judgement of God: we can all share the Queen's hope which in life and death inspired her servant leadership. Service in life, hope in death. All who follow the Queen's example, and inspiration of trust and faith in God, can with her say: 'We will meet again'."

A two-minute silence was held at the end of the service, followed by a recital of national anthem.

Crowds lining The Mall broke into spontaneous applause as the national anthem was played.

Before that, they had stood quietly with their heads bowed during the two-minute silence.

The Queen's coffin then was placed on a gun carriage and transported to Wellington Arch.

Today's ceremony was the first time Meghan has attended a royal or state funeral, after missing Prince Philip's send off in 2021 as she was pregnant with the couple's second child, Lilibet.

Meghan and Harry were in Europe when the Queen passed away carrying out a number of engagements, with Harry rushing to join his family in Balmoral.

The couple joined Kate and William for a surprise walkabout in Windsor last Saturday after a last minute invitation from the Prince of Wales, which sources say was to show a "unity in grief".

It was the first time the formally dubbed 'Fab Four' have been seen together since the Commonwealth Day service in 2020, the Sussexes' final royal engagement before quitting the UK.

They drove to the Long Walk in Windsor in one car before stepping out to meet well-wishers and view floral tributes. They stayed for about 40 minutes before heading home.

Meghan has previously spoken warmly of her relationship with the Queen, saying her husband's grandmother was always lovely to her.

During their engagement interview, she revealed she had met the monarch a couple of times.

Recalling the first meeting, she said: "It's incredible, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honour and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her. And we've had a really, she's, she's an incredible woman."

Harry also added that the Queen's beloved corgis took to Meghan straight away. He said: "I've spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing."

After the royal wedding in 2018, the Queen invited Meghan to join her for a day of engagements in Chester. It was the new Duchess' first engagement without Harry, and she could be seen taking advice and guidance from the monarch.

Ahead of the outing, the Queen gifted the newest member of the royal family a pair of stunning diamond and pearl earrings. Meghan wore the earrings to a memorial service in Westminster in the days following the Queen's death.
