Meghan Markle and Harry leaving Royal Family was disaster for both sides, author claims

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the Royal Family was a disaster and they will need the couple in the coming years, a royal author has claimed.

Tina Brown, the former Vanity Fair editor, believes Harry will return to serve his country when the Queen dies.

However, she warns that won't be easy as she claims wife Meghan disliked England and thinks she will put her foot down and not want to return.

Princess Diana's biographer's new book The Palace Papers: Inside The House Of Windsor - The Truth And The Turmoil hits the shelves today.

Appearing on New York Times podcast Sway to promote her new release, Ms Brown says Megxit as a disaster for both sides.

The writer says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made some "bad choices" and could have left the Royal Family on far better terms if they weren't both "hotheaded'".

She says Harry will push to return in the future and expects him to be at the Queen's Jubilee this summer building bridges.

The author said on the show: "I actually think there is a Harry-shaped hole in the royal family now.

"I think that Harry is going to want to come back when the Queen dies to serve his country. And I think they will find a way to reel him in.

"Maybe they will have a commuter arrangement but I don’t see Meghan ever wanting to go back. She disliked England."

She added: "Harry was beloved, actually, by the British people. People adored Meghan when she came into the mix.

"So it was actually very, very sad for everybody that it went so wrong because they actually need Harry and Meghan now.

"The queen is failing, and she’s very frail. They kind of need Harry and Meghan to bring that star power and to be on the balcony at the Jubilee.

"We have to have a Royal Family up there. We can’t have Andrew up there."

Speaking to the Telegraph, Ms Brown claimed they appeared to be "addicted to drama".

The Duke, she said, appears to have been 'completely and utterly taken over by Meghan and his whole personality has changed'.

She added: "I do question how it will end. Maybe he'll wake up and realise he's living in Goop and he has to get the hell out, go down the pub and see his friends."
