Meghan, Harry, Kate and William driving to Buckingham Palace for final night with Queen

Pictures show Prince William and Kate Middleton as they made the emotional journey to Buckingham Palace for their final night with The Queen.

The Prince and Princess of Wales left Windsor and headed to the palace where they joined royals to say their final farewell.

Appearing sombre in the back seat of the car, the couple made their way through the rainy capital on Tuesday evening.

United in grief, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were among family members to greet them after The Queen's coffin landed in England.

Her Majesty will spend one last night surrounded by her family and staff at the palace before being transferred by gun carriage in a ceremonial procession to Westminster Abbey on Wednesday.

Thousands of well wishers turned out to the palace this evening and fell into a respectful silence as the procession passed by.

Many wept while The Queen returned to her most iconic of homes and later shared a polite applause and cheers in respect for the monarch.

King Charles III and Camilla Queen Consort will receive Her Majesty at the palace where her grandchildren will also meet her coffin.

Other family members expected to attend the private family gathering include the late Queen's niece and nephew, children of the late Princess Margaret, Lady Sarah Chatto and the Earl Snowdon.

Prince William recently admitted the death of his beloved "Grannie" The Queen doesn't feel real in an emotional tribute following the Monarch's death at the age of 96 on Thursday.

The new heir to the throne echoed one of the late monarch's most famous quotes in the moving message, saying "grief is the price we pay for love".

He also pledged to support his father, King Charles III, "in every way he can" as he becomes the new Prince of Wales, with Kate taking the title of Princess of Wales.

"On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader, whose commitment to the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the days ahead about the meaning of her historic reign," he said.

The King and Queen Consort arrived at RAF Northolt in a private plane earlier today, rather than a military one, amid drizzle over west London.

The Queen's only daughter, Princess Anne accompanied her mother's coffin on the flight from Edinburgh and will follow it during Wednesday's procession.
