Megan Thee Stallion claims fellow rapper Tory Lanez offered her $1 million to keep quiet immediately after he allegedly shot her foot, and says she told authorities she stepped on glass because she was afraid police would open fire.
Megan was moved to tears as she recounted the 2020 incident during an interview that aired Monday on “CBS Mornings,” claiming Lanez opened fire following an argument after leaving a party at reality star Kylie Jenner’s house in Los Angeles.
“I look down at my feet and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ I’m really bleeding,” Megan told host Gayle King during the emotional interview.
Megan, 27, says the argument occurred because she was ready to leave the party when others weren’t, and claims Lanez said ‘dance, b---h’ and shot at her multiple times. She claims Lanez apologized moments after firing the weapon.
“He said, ‘I’m so sorry. Please don’t tell nobody. I’ll give y’all $1 million if y’all don’t say nothing,’” Megan said. “And I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? Why are you offering me money right now? Help me. And if you’re sorry, just help me.’”
Police were called to the scene, said Megan, who recalled “many” officers and helicopters arriving.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re all about to die.’ The George Floyd incident had just happened,” Megan told King. “The police are definitely very much shoot first, ask questions after. So I’m like, it’s a hot gun in the car, I’m bleeding, I’ve been shot, they’re about to kill somebody. Like, something bad is about to happen.”
She continued, “I didn’t want them to kill any of us or shoot any of us, so I just said, ‘I stepped on glass.’ For some reason, I was just trying to protect all of us because I didn’t want them to kill us.”
The three-time Grammy winner says she stuck with the glass story after being taken to the hospital, until police left. A doctor then told Megan she had bullet fragments in both feet, she claimed.
The artist, whose real name is Megan Pete, has said she underwent surgery to have the bullets removed.
In Monday’s interview, the “Savage” artist expressed her frustration with people doubting she really got shot and who claim her injuries were the result of stepping on glass.
“I’m the one who said I stepped on glass,” Megan said. “I was lying to protect all of us. Sometimes I wish I really would’ve never said that.”
The 29-year-old Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has denied Megan’s allegation and pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include assault with a semiautomatic firearm. A trial is expected to begin in September.
Megan said she was close friends with Lanez, and that she was looking for a family environment following the death of her mother.
She denied ever being in a romantic relationship with Lanez, and said her anxiety has gotten worse since the alleged shooting.
“My relationship with people has gotten very cold because I’m not as trusting as I used to be,” Megan said. “I’ve got this wall, and I don’t want to make any friends.”
Megan won each of her three Grammys, including best new artist, in 2021, and is known for songs such as “WAP,” “Hot Girl Summer” and “Body.”
The Canadian-born Lanez is a Grammy nominee for the song “LUV.”
