Meg Ryan makes rare public appearance as she steps out to support Michael J Fox

Meg Ryan made a rare public outing as she supported pal Michael J Fox ahead of his new documentary which focuses on his battle with Parkinson's disease.

The Sleepless in Seattle star, 61, has taken a big step back from the limelight in recent years, but made sure to support the Back to the Future actor, also 61.

It marked Meg's first public appearance in six months and fans were quick to comment on her "unrecognisable" new look.

She was snapped alongside Michael wearing a black silk blazer and a red embroidered buttoned vest over a white tee.

She was all smiles as she leaned into the actor, who had opted for a black t-shirt and suit jacket combo along with black jeans and black Adidas trainers.

While some online shared derogatory comments regarding Meg's latest look, she previously revealed she paid no attention to the trolls.

Speaking to Porter Magazine back in 2015, the Hollywood actress discussed her plastic surgery rumours.

"I don’t pay a lot of attention, frankly," she said. "There's a lot of hatred in the world today. It's so easy to judge. Imagine being a hater, how stupid."

And despite taking a back seat from the public eye in recent times, she wasn't to miss Michael's big night.

The documentary looks at the actor's life as he deals with Parkinson's disease over three decades after his first diagnosis.

The star received the news he had the disease when he was aged 29 and he attempted to hide it from those around him by taking pills.

Michael has since given a heartbreaking update on his condition, explaining how he doesn't think he will live until he is 80.

In a chat with CBS Sunday Morning he said: "My life is set up so...I can pack Parkinson's along with me if I have to.”

He went on to explain that the disease made him reassess his approach to life and states: "You don’t die from Parkinson's. You die with Parkinson’s.”

Michael then added that those suffering from the disease at risk of injuries, like falling, choking, or getting sick with a cold which can in turn prove fatal.

Heartbreakingly, he added: "I've been thinking about the mortality of it… I’m not gonna be 80."
