Meet the women who want to work at Liverpool's first Hooters bar

Hundreds of women took part in a recruitment day for Liverpool’s first Hooters bar in Liverpool city centre this week.

The new venue is expected to open inside New Zealand House on Water Street, which was previously home to Newz Bar , this summer. The licence was granted for Hooters earlier this year.

Ahead of its opening, Hooters held a recruitment event at the Hilton Hotel where hundreds of Liverpool women could apply to be a ‘Hooters girl’. Around 200 jobs are available.

No previous experience is required as staff will be trained "the Hooters Way", with successful candidates to receive flexible hours, "great pay", tuition reimbursement and "most of all fun." The training program will be led by Hooters Girls who are flying over from America to Liverpool to train successful candidates.

Yesterday, August 17, we spoke to some of the women hoping to be a part of the Hooters team. One woman said: "It’s been really welcoming. There are a lot of misconceptions about it’s a woman-owned brand in the UK as well so it feels really safe."

On what she's known about the brand before her interview, a second added: "I’ve visited the one in Hollywood and I think it's great, that’s kind of why I wanted to work here and get the job. It’s fun and all the girls look good and I feel good seeing them feel good. "

Speaking about her interview, another woman said what stood out most was "how strong the company is with femininity and how empowering it." She added: "I think that’s what Hooters is all about despite its controversial reputation."

On what it would mean to get the job, another said: "I would love to be in a work environment surrounded by women and especially with a CEO that’s a woman. I think it's so different from other big companies that I’ve worked for."

Another added: "We’ve already been told about the insane amount of flexibility in the position as well as how much or as little we want to do and already told about if we need short term notice for time off, then it's absolutely fine, it's more about our welfare than the job itself."

About her interview, one woman said: "They’ve not even asked me about my previous work experience, it's about you as a person and making sure this is the right job for you. It’s been a lot better than any other interview I’ve ever done, it's a lot more fun, a lot more relaxed and I’ve just made friends already."

About Hooters, another added: "I came here with no ideology, or what other people might see women for and you are empowered when you come here and you are proud to be a woman.

"I feel like society makes you feel like you shouldn’t be proud and you should be put in a little box - and this brand absolutely tells you that and shows that to you without making you feel like you should just be a woman who is quiet."

Ahead of the launch this summer, bosses have revealed a number of things we can expect to see once the American chain opens its doors. The restaurant will aim to bring a “warm welcoming environment and tremendous food” to the city.

The venue has seen a huge refurbishment of New Zealand House, including a 50m hand-painted sky ceiling. The restaurant will feature high spec video walls and 80 TVs too.

The restaurant and bar will be screening big sporting events and will feature Las Vegas-style themed changing rooms for staff - ‘Hooters Girls’ - so they can be “camera ready at all times”.
