Meet the East Lothian duo turning a landmark building into a unique wedding venue

A pair of East Lothian street food specialists have taken over a much-loved listed building in East Linton in a bid to provide customers with a "unique and customizable venue for events".

North Berwick-based entrepreneurs Kurt Edwards and Laura Mouat, who are behind the Wee Green Events food events company, have announced they will be looking after The Mart in East Linton.

The pair, who have also breathed new life into a pair of vintage vans transforming them into a thriving street food truck business, say they will now turn their hand to turning the intriguing building into a top space for weddings and events.

Kurt and Laura explained that they have a preparation kitchen at The Mart and the owners asked if they could help due to their experience in the hospitality industry providing high-quality catering services for a variety of events such as weddings, corporate events, and social gatherings.

Dating back to 1850 the (Old Auction) Mart was once the centre of East Linton, a bustling agricultural destination, a place to meet, trade, learn and have a blether.

"Investment and Grant Assistance has brought the unusual Mart building back into active use, after years of decay and on the Buildings at Risk Register," Explained Kurt. "The project has relied on exceptionally hard work by a team of dedicated people restoring this listed building to the highest standard.

"We are now very excited to use the building to its full potential for the local community and to work with local businesses."

The duo say they will create an all-in-one solution for events at the spacious venue which can accommodate up to 100 guests.

They say the space can be customized to suit any event, from corporate meetings and seminars to weddings, quiz nights, birthday parties and street food.

Speaking about the project, Laura added: "We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers a new and unique venue for their events. Our goal is to provide our customers with the highest level of service possible, and this new function space will allow us to do just that."

"We have different events planned to work with local businesses and suppliers."

They confirmed the venue is already taking bookings and that so far, the response from customers has been "overwhelmingly positive", adding that it is sure to be a hit with people looking for a hassle-free solution to their event needs.

They added that the Mart will offer everything from local handcrafted and homeware markets, local food markets and quiz nights to weddings, street food events, business events and baby groups, wellness events.
