Three wee donkeys are getting ready to spend their first Christmas at Belfast’s Donkey Sanctuary.
Brendan, 12, Diesel, 11, and eight-year-old Davy arrived after some time at the charity’s holding bases when relinquished into their care.
Now they are settling in well with the team in Templepatrick and helping to support vulnerable members of the community through The Donkey Sanctuary Belfast’s assisted activity programme.

Centre manager Lorraine Nelson said: “Their characters are starting to shine through, and they have already made a marked impression on their grooms.
“Brendan loves attention - the skewbald coloured donkey is often the first to meet new people at the centre and enjoys interaction with visitors. “Davy is a bit shyer than Diesel, but over the coming months staff will help develop their confidence.”
While the trio are now busy helping people learn valuable life skills to better deal with every day challenges, the sanctuary is hoping to find them a new guardian home in the new year through their rehoming scheme.
Lorraine added: “The next stage on the journey for Davy, Brendan and Diesel is for us to prepare them for a suitable forever home with a Donkey Guardian on our Rehoming Scheme. This may take several months and will depend on their progress, but until then they will continue to provide support for those who need it in the local area.”
Until then, Brendan, Davy and Diesel will spend their time winning people over with their charm and supporting those who need it.
It is hoped their contact with people will also promote positive attitudes towards one of history’s most prominent creatures.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a Donkey Guardian, and rehoming a pair or more donkeys, please call the centre in Templepatrick on 028 933 24647.
