Medical team did 'everything they could' to save baby boy who died after 2 days

A doctor involved in the care of a baby who died 36 hours after his birth said the medical team did 'everything they could' to keep him alive. Dulip Jayasinghe, Consultant Neonatologist at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH), said he first met "pale and floppy" newborn Quinn Parker shortly after his birth at City Hospital on January 14, 2021.

Baby Quinn was delivered through category 1 emergency C-section at 7.08pm and transferred to the neonatal unit shortly after his birth. Dr Jayasinghe, who gave evidence during an inquest held at Nottingham Council House on Thursday (April 28), recalls meeting the baby at 7.40pm when he was admitted.

"It was striking how pale he was", he told the inquest. Although he was breathing on his own, the baby soon began to "grunt" and was found anaemic.
