Meccha Chameleon, the latest "friendslop" hit on Steam to take the web by storm, now boasts a whopping seven million sales… and news of a fresh "Japan-themed map," too.
In case you've missed it, Meccha Chameleon has been circulating online forums and social media reels like no tomorrow – in fact, it's pretty much all I see right now as I scroll.
It's already proven a smash hit on Steam, with developers constantly updating folks on the number of sales it's reached. 500,000, then a million, then two million, three million, five million… and today, a whopping seven million sales in total.
For context, Meccha Chameleon only released on June 10. That means less than two weeks have passed, and it's already reached over seven million players worldwide. That's no small feat, especially for an indie game with just a couple of devs behind it. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, they're thrilled.
A new post on Steam celebrating the milestone proves as much, with the small studio writing, "7 million copies sold! Thank you so much!"
The devs then tease an update coming within the next couple of days: "The new official Japan-themed map will be added today or tomorrow."
Honestly, I'm thrilled to hear it – I may or may not have spent the latter half of the weekend cycling through Meccha Chameleon's few existing maps (please, no more Backrooms) and exhausting the Steam Workshop of all its player-created options… so I'm more than ready for something fresh.
It seems I'm not alone either, as comments show people praising Meccha Chameleon. One person exclaims, "W development, keep it up." Another jokes that the "friendslop" game just keeps winning – and I'm inclined to agree.
There are nearly 10,000 reviews, after all, and a solid "Very Positive" rating to boot for the Prop Hunt-esque gem from lemorion_1224. I'm almost certain that number (and score) will continue to soar, too.
Here's hoping Meccha Chameleon keeps flying toward the moon and the devs keep on with their work on the hide-and-seek hit. I don't think there'll ever be enough maps to paint in, but every new addition is a very welcome one.
