Meat:Stack review: We tried the new Leeds burger joint and it beat Five Guys

We got to try the new indulgent Leeds burger bar that on a first glance looks a lot like Five Guys but tastes so much better.

Meat:Stack has opened in Leeds city centre after having enjoyed success in Newcastle. The menu loaded with beefy treats is inspired by one of America’s most iconic creations - going out for a burger.

Slightly hungover from Sunday club antics I knew a dirty burger was the best way to cure myself - it did just that - so I headed into Leeds to try one of the eatery's creations.

Meat:Stack is easy to find, just look for the bold red front that says "I'm American" without saying "I'm American," plus it's right next to Leeds train station.

When I first got there I was shocked at how similar to Five Guys it looked, same aesthetics, style and a pretty similar cuisine - I think the only difference was the name and the menu.

Meat:Stack has that all-American feel (Megan Banner)

I ordered the June special, the big Kahuna, which came with pineapple , bacon, teriyaki, stack sauce, fresh green chilli and soft cheese - so many good flavours right? It came as a meal deal with a side and drink, I ordered a side of beef dripping fries and refillable fizzy pop - the drink machine had so many different flavours to choose from.

The food came pretty promptly, I had a buzzer which flashed to tell me the food was ready and a waiter came over within seconds with the food.

Sadly Meat:Stack had run out of pineapple for my burger, although those 'pineapple doesn't belong on pizza' people are probably relieved to hear that. The lack of pineapple didn't matter though, the burger tasted incredible - it was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of toppings to fix that dirty burger craving I'd been having. Honestly, it put Five Guys to shame.

The side of beef dripping fries were full of flavour - I would go as far to say they were some of the best tasting fries I'd ever eaten, ultimately it was a taste sensation the whole experience.

Overall the experience and food was great, the service was fast and the atmosphere in the restaurant made for the perfect quick-bite burger place. It's definitely on the same vibe as Five Guys but I preferred the menu style and experience here. I thought the price was also a lot better value for money at Meat:Stack.

Better yet, I left with no hangover in sight.

The menu has a range of tastily-assembled burgers such as the American West Coast Classic or the Turbocharger which is something for those who love fried chicken. This combines chicken tenders, baconnaise, pickled jalapenos, dry cure smoked streaky bacon, hash brown and signature buffalo.

Sides include Pompeii fries and filthy fries. If you have a sweet tooth you can enjoy Jersey shakes which come in flavours such as Nutella, peanut butter and raspberry jam.

The new Meat:Stack venue is based in Bishopgate Street, at the 34 Boar Lane building.
