Irish supermarkets have recalled a number of food products over safety fears recently.
Popular items such as pork chops, chicken, olives, popcorn, and juice have been marked as unsafe by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland in the last few weeks. The affected food products were sold in big-name supermarkets such as Lidl, Dunnes, Aldi, Tesco, Supervalu, and more.
Notices will be displayed at point-of-sale if you are unsure if the product in your freezer is potentially one of the recalled products. Here are the recall notices issued by FSAI in recent weeks:

Dunnes Stores Pork Smoky BBQ Quick Fry Loin Chops
Earlier today, the FSAI issued a notice that a batch of Dunnes Stores Smoky BBQ Pork Loin Chops is being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella. The batch was sold as fresh and is past its expiry date, but the label states it is suitable for home freezing, meaning the product could still be in your kitchen.
The FSAI has urged people not to eat the meat, and that notices will be displayed at point-of-sale at Dunnes Stores. A FSAI spokesperson said: "Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch, should they have them in their freezer.
"If the pork has already been consumed, cooking should remove the risk. Raw meat should always be handled hygienically when defrosting and preparing it, and also cooked thoroughly before eating it."
Salmonella can be dangerous for vulnerable members of the public, like babies and elderly people. According to the FSAI, people infected with Salmonella usually develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.
The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody and other symptoms may include headache, fever, and abdominal cramps., with the illness usually lasting around four to seven days.
Guastalla Green and Black Pitted Olives
The FSAI has issued a recall for Guastalla Green and Black Pitted Olives which are usually sold in Supervalu.
According to the FSAI, the olives are being recalled due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The batch has a used by date code of 25.04.2023, and recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.
Popcorn kernels
The FSAI has recalled several different types of popcorn kernels due to elevated levels of aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is one of a group of a naturally occurring chemicals (mycotoxins) produced by certain moulds.
According to the FSAI, mycotoxins can cause a variety of adverse health effects in humans including cancer (some are genotoxic), kidney and liver damage, gastrointestinal disturbances, reproductive disorders, or suppression of the immune system

Apple Farm Still Irish Apple Juice
The FSAI has issued an alert recently for the Apple Farm Still Irish Apple Juice due to possible fermentation that may cause bottle breakage. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
The affected batch has a code of M152 and it's best before date: 31/03/2024.
Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon
Batches of the Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon have been recalled the FSAI due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The batches included in this recall are “Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon; pack sizes: 120g, 240g, 350g; approval number: IE DN0022 EC”. The batch code is P13, and the use-by date is 15.04.2023.
According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, “Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea."
