An unvaccinated measles patient was seen twice in the emergency department at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, marking Allegheny County's first measles case since 2019, according to a hospital spokesperson quoted by CBS News. The case surfaced in the same week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added 211 confirmed cases to the national count, more than double the previous week's increase.
The national figure now stands at 2,777 cases for the year, current through the CDC's most recent weekly update, which reflects cases reported to the agency as of midday last Thursday. The prior week added 101 cases and the week before that 94, according to an analysis by the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy. Two consecutive weeks near 100 had already broken from the summer pattern. A week at 211 changes the trajectory rather than extending it.
