Rory McIlroy bounced back from a disappointing triple bogey on the 18th hole of his first round on Thursday with a sparkling round of 68 to fire himself into contention at the BMW Championship.
McIlroy started slowly and made par on his first hole. The Hollywood native gave a shot back on the par 3 second to slip back to one over for the tournament.
The four time major winner bounced back immediately with a birdie on the Par 5 third. The two time winner on the PGA Tour this year carded additionally birdies at six and eight to make the turn in just 33 shots.

'Rors' struggled to get going on the back nine and made par on the first four holes as he headed for home. A three-putt on 14 saw McIlroy card a second sloppy birdie of the day.
A birdie on 15 saw McIlroy move back to five under par for the tournament. Two pars followed, before McIlroy birdied the last to move to six under for the week.
It was a much better finish for McIlroy who was furious with himself after triple bogeying the final hole of his first round on Thursday. As he heads into moving day, he sits in a tie for sixth placed on the leaderboard.
Elsewhere, Seamus Power and Shane Lowry kept their FedEx Cup dreams alive with a pair of solid rounds. Lowry, who carded a spectacular 65 on Thursday, had a very steady round and signed off a scorecard of level par, making one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars for the day.
The Champion Golfer of the year for 2019 began the week in 38th spot on the FedEx leaderboard. However, after an excellent first couple of days, the former Open Champion finds himself tied for tenth, and is projected to be a part of the 30 man field at East Lake in the FedEx Cup finale next week.
Power on the other hand carded a score of 68 on Friday after a level par opening round on Thursday. The Waterford man is in 23rd place and has work to do, and will need a good weekend to make it to East Lake in a weeks time.
