Vegetarians can get their favourite McDonald’s menu items for less than £1 this week to celebrate National Vegetarian Week. And even comedian Jack Whitehall is on board.
The Bad Education actor is a flexitarian, and has been captured on film with his meat-loving parents Michael and Hilary taste testing the McPlant as part of their At-home with the Whitehall’s show.
The video shows that despite Jack’s best efforts to persuade his father to adopt a flexitarian diet, Michael responds with his typical no-nonsense approach. Jack orders a McDonald’s and as the trio chow down, he reveals it’s not actually meat but in fact a McPlant.

It comes as this week is National Vegetarian Week (May 16-22), which is a week dedicated to encouraging more people to choose veggie options. Jack. as a flexitarian, chooses to eat meat some days, but not others.
McDonald’s have launched a number of plant-based deals this week in a bid to see more customers give them a try at a fraction of the price, including veggie dippers and McPlants for 99p.
McPlant, which rolled out nationwide earlier this year, features a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, vegan sauce, fresh onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and vegan cheese. With a patty co-developed with Beyond Meat, which is accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.
Customers can get a 99p McPlant on May 16, 18 and 20, with Veggie Deluxes reduced on May 19, and Veggie Dippers just 99p on May 23. On May 22, shoppers will be able to save £5 when they spend £20.
Meat eaters needn’t worry about missing out, as the quarter pounder with cheese will also be 99p on May 18, while they can get a 99p fillet-o-fish on May 19, or a triple cheeseburger on May 21.
