McDonald's worker shares 'correct' order format to ensure you always get right food

There are few things more annoying than going to the McDonald's drive through, then return home, ready to devour your burger and fries, only to realise they have messed up the order.

According to McDonald's employee Megan Grace, or @megzy210803 on TikTok, it's inevitable that staff make mistakes. Sometimes they miss items out, or they put the wrong items through the system.

In a recent Tiktok video, she said: "We do make mistakes. I'm not going to sit here and say we don't mistakes. We do, we miss food, we take wrong order, we can take wrong payments. It happens."

But to help minimise the mistakes made and avoid disappointment, Megan has shared one thing you should always do, and it's all based on the way in which you place your order.

Megan praises people who order in the "correct format" because it helps them when they enter the items into the system.

The McDonald's employee explained: "What I mean by this is, on our tills we have to put in the size of the meal first, then what meal it is, then any customisations, then the drinks.

"So instead of saying, I want a Big Mac, as a meal, as a medium meal, with a Coke, can that be a Diet Coke, just come up to the headset saying: Can I have a medium Big Mac meal with a Diet Coke.

"It saves so much time for both of us and it also means we're less likely to get orders wrong."

In a separate video, Megan shared more tips so that you can make sure your Maccie's order is correct.

Firstly, when you're at the speaker system in the drive through, she says to "try to speak as clearly as possible". This is because the "headsets are awful" and they hear a lot of static and feedback, and if there's a lot of wind it can make it hard to hear someone.

She also recommends speaking very clearly, because some words sound very similar to her in the headset – for example Sprite and fries.

Megan also recommends that when you get to the first window you should always get them to read the order back to you, unless they have a screen there so you can see for yourself.

She added: "When you get to the second window, if there are certain dips or napkins and stuff that you want, there's no harm in being like 'is this in the bag'? Because when it's busy I know people can forget. I've forgotten dips myself sometimes."

Most importantly, before you get back on the road to drive home, you should make sure everything is in the bag. She added: "We make so many and especially when it's busy it's to miss something off a big order so there's no harm in pulling over for five seconds and double-checking everything is in the bag because we do make mistakes."
