We all know there's nothing more disappointing than being served cold fries at McDonald's when you were looking forward to them being hot, fresh and salty. Some fans of the fast food chain have resorted to asking their server for fries without any salt on them to guarantee that they will be made fresh for them - but one former employee says this isn't necessary.
One ex-employee, Dessy Joseph, known as @jodessy on TikTok, has been sharing her tips, tricks and inside knowledge of working for the fast food giant in the US, and says asking for fries with no salt actually slows down the entire operation for everyone and there's just no need to ask for them if you're going to just add your own salt on afterwards. Instead, you can simply ask your server for fresh fries, the Mirror reports.
Speaking to her more than 600,000 TikTok followers, she said: "Asking for fries no salt is just annoying. Just say you want the fries dropped fresh - nine times out of 10 the fries are already dropped fresh."
The video has been liked more than five million times - with other former McDonald's workers commenting too. "I worked at McDonald's and these are all accurate," one person said. Another person added: "I say no salt on the fries everywhere, not because I want them fresh though, people really do be putting too much salt."
The former crew member also shared an explanation for why the milkshake and ice cream machines in the restaurant always seem to be "broken" when you fancy one. Dessy said her colleagues used to tell customers they were broken when they couldn't be bothered to refill the machine.
"The ice cream machine is rarely broken, at least at my location. We just didn't want to change those heavy bags of shake mix," she said. Revealing other secrets in her videos, Dessy said that in her experience, rarely any items on the menu are actually made in the restaurant, except the eggs, and that everything else - even cookies - come into store frozen.
A former worker added in the comments: "I worked at McDonald's for three years and the reason the ice cream machines is always broken for me was because it goes through a cleaning cycle." Another agreed: "Yes same, or only one person would know how to fix it when it did break down and it always happened when they weren't on shift."
