A vegan complained to McDonald's after finding a strip of bacon in his McPlant burger. The customer said he felt 'let down' by the fast food chain after discovering that his supposedly meat-free meal contained meat.
The 37-year-old customer from Great Barr in Birmingham, who asked not to be named, ordered two of the chain's McPlant burgers shortly after 11.30am on Wednesday (April 13). The vegan burger, made with a 'plant-based patty' co-developed with Beyond Meat, is certified by the Vegetarian Society as an ‘approved’ vegan product.
However, the customer claimed that after finishing the first burger and biting into the second, a piece of bacon fell out of it. He said he only realised what it was when he finished the McPlant and looked down in horror at the piece of meat, Birmingham Live reports.
