A 30-year old McDonald's menu has been rediscovered showing lost items that we think need to make a swift return.
The retro McDonald's menu was attached to a wall at a branch way back in 1993 and snapped by a Daily Mirror photographer. The image has recently been rediscovered in the Mirrorpix photographic archives.
In Liverpool, the first McDonald's restaurant in the city opened its doors on Lord Street in November 1985. According to the store locator on the McDonald's website, there are now 20 restaurants within just five miles of Liverpool city centre.

To put things in context, in 1993 when the photo of the menu was taken, the Premier League had just started and Jurassic Park was out in cinemas. The first high speed train made its journey through the Channel Tunnel which wouldn't open to the public until the following year, and Jodie Comer was born.
Back to the menu and firstly, let's talk about the prices. Now obviously inflation has played a big part but it's still quite something to see a Big Mac on the menu for £1.79 while a Quarter Pounder with cheese a mere £1.81.
There's no doubt a 1990s McDonald's milkshake seemed to take more effort to suck up through a straw. Back then you could by a large Triple Thick Milkshake for just £1.14 but if you wanted to take it away, it was only 97p.

There were also three sizes of French Fries. The large would set you back £1.05, the medium 84p, while the regular would be a mere 57p. But perhaps some of the most interesting things from the menu are what you can no longer buy at McDonald's in 2022. First, a quintessentially English strawberry trifle.

Described as "A fresh cream trifle with rich strawberry fruit jelly and sponge on a layer of dairy cream custard with rosettes of fresh cream." It's not known exactly what year McDonald's decided to take trifle off the menu but one online commenter who said they picked one up at an airport in 1993 remembered it being "surprisingly tasty".
Another item that should surely be welcomed back onto the menu was the McDonald's Big Breakfast. The lost breakfast item consisted of a buttered English muffin, a hash brown, a sausage patty as well as scrambled egg all for just £1.29.
The Big Breakfast on the 1993 was described as: "Two eggs scrambled in butter served with a pure pork sausage patty together with a toasted buttered English muffin and a delicious portion of deep fried has brown potatoes." You could also buy Scrambled Eggs and an English Muffin for just 90p, or English Muffin with a choice of strawberry, apricot or orange marmalade preserve for just 52p.
Perhaps though, we shouldn't lament the loss of these items compared to the additions that McDonald's have introduced to the menu since the 1990s. For instance, there was no option on the breakfast menu to double up on those McMuffins.
Now they just need to introduce a veggie or vegan version of the McMuffin and all will be forgiven.
