A McDonald's fan was left "shaken to her core" after finding out about an unusual ingredient in the restaurant's sweet and sour sauce. Evan-May Gillott was dumfounded when she discovered that her favourite dip contained fruit, having never associated the condiment with such a healthy ingredient.
Posting about revelation to Tik Tok, the 27-year-old asked others to try and guess what fruit gives the popular sauce its sweet taste. Many were left just as stunned as she had been when she shared the answer, with one person in disbelief that "the worst fruit to exist makes the tastiest sauce".
As reported by the Mirror, Evan-May's video has since gone viral with more than 242,000 views and 13,000 likes. In the clip, she asked her followers: "Am I the only one who didn't know what fruit it is made from until today?"
The TikTok user then went on to reveal that the fruity ingredient was in fact apricot, not pineapple or mango as some had wrongly guessed, leaving many of her followers in a state of complete astonishment.
One person gasped: "I was 100% convinced it was pineapple, maybe cos they put it in the little tubs when you get a Chinese".
Another reflected: "I said mango so confidently. I had no idea that it was even a fruit this is all. I eat and I would never think". [sic] A third declared: "No wonder I don’t like it! Curry girl till I die."
Evan-May recalled: "When I found out it was apricot I was shaken to my core as didn’t even associate it with fruit. I’ve eaten sweet ’n’ sour sauce from McDonald's for years to go with my chippies, I’ve always loved it.
"I’ve never actually thought about it, but now I’m wondering about all sorts of condiments - I mean what about brown! They’re just so elusive."
She added: "I assumed that everybody wouldn’t know as well, so had to share my discovery with my fellow McDonald’s lovers. Turns out everybody is as surprised as me, and I’ve even now found out the curry sauce uses apricot as well."
