McDonald's brings back bargain Happy Meals just in time for the summer holidays

In the summer holidays, McDonald’s is often the holy grail for parents who have had enough of cooking.

But constant cries for snacks and food need not be stressful any more after the chain lunched its summer saviour.

The hamburger maestros have brought back the £1.99 Happy Meal this July to save weary adults.

From Monday, July 15 until Wednesday, July 30, families can grab a meal deal for a child for less than £2 via the McDonald’s app.

The £1.99 deal – normally £3.49 – includes a choice of fishfingers, chicken McNuggets or veggie dippers with an apple and grape bag or carrot bag side.

They can also choose a drink from a range of options including a small fizzy, water, milk or a Fruit Shoot.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “This 40 per cent reduction in the average price of the Happy Meal is sure to bring smiles to the faces of families across the country this summer.

“Not only that but, to mark the arrival of the new Despicable Me 4 film, McDonald’s has also partnered with Illumination to launch an exclusive Despicable Me 4 Happy Meal.

“Customers will be able to earn points when they purchase this deal by opting into MyMcDonald’s Rewards. The scheme means every penny spent equals one Rewards point, so the new limited-time Happy Meal offer will get you 199 points.”

Despicable Me 4 is in cinemas now.

The latest film in the franchise sees favourite Gru welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr, who's intent on tormenting his dad. Further trouble comes in the form of criminal mastermind Maxime Le Mal, who escapes from prison and vows revenge against Gru.

Available until August 24, each limited-edition Happy Meal from McDonald’s will include one of 12 Despicable Me 4 toys or one of two books.

A spokesman added: “How despicably cool is that!”‌

‌Kids can also channel their inner cheeky Minion by scanning the QR code on Happy Meal boxes to tackle special Minion missions.
