McDonald's April Fool's Day prank backfires as fans left not happy

Everybody knows that on April Fool’s Day, it's best to have a healthy dose of scepticism around what you read or hear - even the Irish Mirror ran a prank that said 7Up had launched the new 7Up Flat to join in on the fun.

However, fast food joint McDonald's has caused outrage with its 2023 prank, with some people even going as far as to say the multinational chain has gone too far.

Posting a convincing picture on Instagram on Saturday, April 1, the Australian McDonald's announced the McFry - a beef patty burger with fries stuffed inside, “so you don't have to”.

The post on Instagram said: "The ultimate Mac-hack now comes made to order, as we take the classic Quarter Pounder and stack it with Australia's fave fries.

"No mess. No fuss. No worries. We've made it so you don't have to! Get your hands on the McFry today."

The burger giant even partnered with a well-known Melbourne food blogger, Ange Eats, who could be seen tucking into the new burger.

They said: “The well-known hack we all know and love has just hit the menu in McDonald's in Australia.

"Fries inside, we've got beef, cheese, onions, pickles, tomato sauce. It looks mega."

Despite many hints that this promotion was in fact a bit less than true, many McDonald’s lovers were extremely disappointed to learn that they would be unable to eat one at their local.

Some even went as far as to request the burger joint to make the burger real, just to make up for the upset.

One person posted: "I'd actually eat this Macca's, don’t play with me", while another added: "This actually looks good.

Another posted: "This isn't even a funny joke because it's what we all want. Been doing it ourselves for years."

This is not the only time a prank by the fast-food restaurant has left people angry - with the McPickle in 2019 causing quite a stir.

The fake two-layered burger was filled with pickles and topped with cheese and tomato sauce. However, people were not happy to learn it was fake.
