McDonald's April Fool's Day joke backfires and leaves fans absolutely fuming

Everybody knows that on April Fool's Day you can't believe everything you hear or read, as there is always a chance it could be a complete wind up. McDonald's decided to join in on the fun this year with their own unique prank - but it left their customers furious with some fast food lovers saying the chain went too far.

Australian McDonald's restaurants, known as 'Maccas', announced a brand new menu item on social media yesterday called the McFry. The fake yet convincing image showed a delicious-looking beef patty burger with fries stuffed inside, and it caused a lot of excitement among fans, the Mirror reports.

The brand shared the 'new' meal on Instagram, saying: "The ultimate Mac-hack now comes made to order, as we take the classic Quarter Pounder and stack it with Australia's fave fries. No mess. No fuss. No worries. We've made it so you don't have to! Get your hands on the McFry today."

Fast food lovers were left furious when they discovered the 'McFry' was an April Fool's prank (McDonald's)

The burger giant even took it a step further to 'partner up' with a well-known Melbourne food blogger, Ange Eats who could be seen tucking into the new item. He claimed: "The well-known hack we all know and love has just hit the menu in McDonald's in Australia. Fries inside, we've got beef, cheese, onions, pickles, tomato sauce. It looks mega."

Enthusiastic fans rushed to their local branches and were disappointed to discover they weren't able to order one. Some really hacked off customers even went as far to beg McDonald's to make it a real menu item to make up for their cruel joke.

One angry Aussie wrote: "I'd actually eat this Macca's, don’t play with me". Another similarly fumed: "This actually looks good." Someone else replied: "This isn't even a funny joke because it's what we all want. Been doing it ourselves for years."

However, this is not the first time that a McDonald's prank has left people furious. Thehe burger giant previously caused a stir with the McPickle in 2019. The fake two-layered burger was advertised with pickles stuffed inside it along with a topping of cheese and tomato sauce.

Keen fans were left livid after discovering the burger was not real with one person commenting on their Instagram: "Omfg if this is an April Fool's joke imma be mad."
