McDonald's announce new Happy Meals for adults - but there is a catch

McDonald's is making Happy Meals available for every age from the end of this month with a new menu item - but only for certain customers.

The global fast-food giant announced it has partnered with Cactus Plant Flea Market to sell their new Adult Happy Meals in US restaurants only, starting from October 3.

Big kids will now be able to get their grown up version of the iconic kids meal which will come complete with a Big Mac or 10 Chicken McNuggets, alongside fries and a drink.

The meal will also feature four small toys that are based of the food chain's classic characters; the Hamburglar, Birdie, Grimace, and Cactus Buddy.

Cactus Plant Flea Market fans can also win merchandise by participating in sweepstakes on the McDonald's app, The Mirror reports.

It is currently unknown how much the meal will cost, but US fans can relive their youth by taking advantage of the Happy Meal until October 30.

Despite the excitement surrounding the grown up version of the kids meal, McDonald's have, sadly, confirmed there are no plans to bring them to the UK.

Tariq Hassan, McDonald's USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, said in a statement: "We're taking one of the most nostalgic McDonald's experiences and literally repackaging it in a new way that's hyper-relevant for our adult fans.

"I can't wait to give fans a unique piece of art and culture as we dive headfirst into the dynamic world of Cactus Plant Flea Market together next week.

"With menu favorites like the Big Mac and McNuggets at the centre of this collab, this is another way we're reigniting a new generation’s love for our food and the brand."

It comes after McDonald's wrote on its Facebook page earlier this month: "One day you ordered a Happy Meal for the last time and you didn't even know it."

A person commented: "I don't need this kind of negativity in my life."

Another added: "I'm 52 and I haven’t ordered my last one yet."

One more person wrote: "I'm gonna go order one today just to undo this violence."

The announcement comes after a US animal shelter went viral on social media for treating its dogs to McDonald's double cheeseburgers as a one-off treat.

The Humane Society of Lebanon County, in Pennsylvania, US, has racked up more than 89,000 shares on its Facebook post showing dozens of homeless dogs tucking into McDonald's.
