MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to renovate the outfield at its iconic Wankhede Stadium.
“The outfield at Wankhede needs renovation. It was last worked upon before the 2011 World Cup, when the entire stadium underwent a major renovation. There are now different patches of grass on the sand-based outfield, which doesn’t look too good. We need a specialised agency to work on it. Due to rains, there will be no cricketing activity for a few months now, so this is the best time to undertake this work,” a source told TOI on Tuesday.
For the first time since the 2011 World Cup, the Wankhede Stadium underwent a fair bit of renovation before staging the IPL earlier this year.
On Monday, a notice on the MCA website, titled ‘Expression of Interest for outfield work at the Wankhede Stadium,’ put up by the association’s secretaries Sanjay Naik and Shahalam Shikha mentioned: “MCA invites expression of interest from experienced vendors for the outfield work to be undertaken at Wankhede Stadium. EOI to be submitted in a sealed envelope addressed to Secretary, Mumbai Cricket Association, 3rd Floor, Cricket Centre Building, Wankhede Stadium, D Road, Churchgate, Mumbai 400 020 by 5.00 pm on or before Monday, 20th June 2022.
