The city of Maysville, in Mason County, has a new, permanent home for its regional drivers’ licensing office. Naitore Djigenbou is the executive director of public affairs for the state Transportation Cabinet. She said the new site is larger and offers other advantages for people who need to renew their license or get a new one.
“This new location has more issuance stations, better parking, and better space for us to conduct the type of confidential services that we offer in our offices.”
The Maysville office is one of 32 regional drivers’ licensing offices around the state. Another development will be statewide. When 2024 rolls around, folks will have to wait four to ten business days to transfer a vehicle or get a new license plate at their county clerk’s office. Djigenbou said the halt will allow the state to finish transferring vehicle information data to a more customer- and agency-friendly system.
“This is the final phase of a gradual transition we've been making for the last eight years, we've released previous modules. And this last module is the big one that gets us to move more than 300 million records over to this new system.”
Djigenbou said online vehicle registrations will also be put on hold during that period. She said the new system will also allow the cabinet to sell more than 20 special license plates to honor a driver’s favorite nonprofit.
