LUCKNOW: Mayawati’s nephew Akash, who was kept away from the UP elections and given the task of party building in non-election states, has been appointed the sole national coordinator of BSP. Akash was party’s national coordinator earlier as well, along with Ramji Gautam, but has now been given this responsibility entirely. Party members said the move indicates that he is being groomed for a bigger role.
“Akash and Ramji Gautam were joint national coordinators but now Akash is the only national coordinator. While nothing has been said about his future role in the party, this move has made it clear that he is in a special position and will now be groomed for a bigger role ahead,” said a senior party member, explaining that this was probably the reason why Akash was kept away from the campaign in UP and involved instead in party meetings across various other states where his role was better defined.
