Maya Jama has reportedly split from her basketball player fiancé Ben Simmons just eight months after confirming their engagement.
The 28-year-old TV presenter and her NBA star partner Ben, 26, are said to have struggled with the challenge of a long-distance relationship, as Maya lives in London while Ben is based in Brooklyn. The couple’s busy work schedules were also reportedly a factor in their split, as a source told the New York Post their arrangements made the relationship “impossible to work.”
The source said: “While they both care for each other so much, they truly gave it their all and realize they just come from two different worlds. They now understand they don’t have the time they thought to dedicate to this relationship.”

The source explained the couple had many “heartfelt talks” and have been through a “difficult time” together. They added: “They had no idea the challenges they would face when handling all the logistics of making a life together in two countries."
Their busy schedules and constant travelling reportedly made the relationship “impossible to work,” leading to "one of the hardest decisions of their lives." The pair are said to want to remain friends and stay in one another’s lives as there is still "a lot of love" between them.
Maya – who is known for co-presenting BBC One's Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer and hosting her own Radio 1 show from 2018-2020 – has been tipped to take over Love Island host duties from Laura Whitmore after she announced her departure last month. She is also a bookies’ favourite to front ITV’s Big Brother revival when it hits screens in 2023.
