Maya Jama held back tears during Love Island final and 'couldn't look Islander in the eye'

Maya Jama proved herself to be an amazing Love Island host and in a recent interview opened up on her favourite and most emotional moments from this year's winter series.

The stunning host announced Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan as winners on Monday and Maya revealed there was a sweet moment during the final where she struggled to hold back tears.

Summing up the winning couple, the Love Island host said: "I love, love, love Kai and Sanam as a couple. They’re so sweet together, and you can tell they really love being in each other's company. When Sanam came in she felt like a perfect fit for Kai."

During their final interview before the winner was revealed, Sanam accidentally slipped up and dropped the 'L-bomb' in a heart-warming moment.

"Obviously he's an attractive guy. Apart from the looks, I feel in love," she said before her eyes widened and she clapped her hand to her mouth when she realised what she had said.

"What was that?" Maya exclaimed as Kai pulled her in for a hug before Sanam went on to praise her partner again and admitting she was nearly in tears.

Speaking about this moment, Maya said: "You can see just how much of a warm heart she has, I could barely look her in the eye after she accidentally said she was in love with Kai during the final - she almost set me off - but that’s when I knew there was something real. They bring out a genuine side in one another."

Reflecting on her favourite moment of the series, the presenter praised the drama-filled Casa Amor experience.

The Love Island host confessed she "couldn't hide my emotions" during the dramatic recoupling.

"The recoupling at Casa actually shocked me! I wasn’t expecting the outcome especially when Tanya walked in with Martin," she said.

Maya also pointed out Move Night as one of her favourite moments of the series for being "wild, shocking, and completely filled with drama".

On Monday, Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall were revealed to be this year's runners-up while Tom Clare and Samie Elishi finished in third position.

Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga received the least number of votes from the public.
