If you are planning to do a spot of shopping or DIY over the May bank holidays, it may be worth noting the opening hours of the stores you plan to visit.
There are three bank holiday weekends in May this year. The extra one is to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles.
The dates include May Day bank holiday which falls on Monday, May 1, Coronation of King Charles III bank holiday on Monday, May 8, and the spring bank holiday on Monday, May 29. While most stores will remain open on these days, their trading hours may vary.

Shoppers should check with each specific store before travelling to avoid a wasted journey. At present, no major retailers have said they will close on the day of the Coronation on May 6, and most will be operating their usual Saturday trading hours, reports Yorkshire Live.
Bank Holiday opening hours for May 2023
Tesco
Most of Tesco’s larger stores will be open from 8am to 6pm, while some may stay open until 8pm. Express stores opening hours may vary.

Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury's stores will be open between 8am and 8pm over the three May Bank Holiday dates. You can check the opening hours of your nearest store here.
Morrisons
Most large Morrisons will be open from 7am until 8pm and their local Morrison Daily stores may be open longer. The Morrisons store finder will have up-to-date information for each individual location.
Aldi
Aldi will be operating under their normal Bank Holiday hours on all three dates, meaning they will be open from 8am until 8pm.
Asda
Most large Asda stores will be open from 7am until 8pm, but smaller ones may be subject to variation according to their online store finder.
Marks and Spencer
Larger Marks and Spencer stores will be open from 9am to 8pm on Bank Holidays. Opening hours for High Street branches and local stores may vary. Information on specific locations can be found on the M&S website.

The Swedish homeware superstore will operate its usual trading hours over the bank holiday, meaning most stores will be open from 10am until 8pm.
