A Victorian team bolstered by the return of Glenn Maxwell for his first Sheffield Shield match in more than three years have endured a challenging start to day one of their match against South Australia.
On an extremely green wicket at Melbourne's Junction Oval, Victoria worked their way to 3-75 at lunch after winning the toss.
The Vics lost Travis Dean on the last ball of the session, with Wes Agar (2-27) bowling the opener for 34.
Campbell Kellaway went to lunch on 8 not out.
Marcus Harris was unable to follow up his century in Victoria's last outing and was caught in the slips for 15, while Ashley Chandrasinghe went in the same fashion for 11.
It proved to be a chaotic start for South Australia, with long-serving wicketkeeper Harry Nielsen ruled out with illness on the morning of the match.
Replacement wicketkeeper Harry Mattias made the morning dash across from Adelaide but wasn't ready until the first drinks break, leaving 12th man Thomas Kelly to don the gloves during the first hour.
There was also a Redbacks' debut for fast bowler Spencer Johnson after a long apprenticeship in local grade cricket.
