Newcastle United could capitalise on Maxwel Cornet's £17.5million release clause to bring him to Tyneside this summer. As reported earlier this weekend on Chronicle Live, Cornet of Burnley has been offered to the Magpies along with Watford's Emmanuel Dennis.
The Atheltic claims the Ivory Coast international had a release clause placed into his contract if the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League. Their ill-fated campaign last year saw them tumble into the Championship, but Cornet was among their silver linings in a dismal season.
Cornet scored nine goals in 26 games in all competitions after signing a five-year deal last summer after making the switch for a reported fee of €12million. Eddie Howe's side are in the market for some attacking options after bolstering their defence and Cornet could prove an astute acquisition.

Injuries have interrupted his first season at Turf Moor, but his statistics are impressive enough to warrant a move back to the Premier League. He managed one assist last year, which is a downside to his game, but the Clarets struggled to score goals last season.
Nottingham Forest have reportedly seen a bid knocked back for Cornet last week and the left-sided 25-year-old looks set to leave Burnley this summer.
