Maxwel Cornet makes classy Burnley gesture following £17.5m West Ham transfer

West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet returned to Burnley on Wednesday to say his goodbyes after departing the Championship club last week.

Cornet became the Hammers ’ fifth signing of the summer window last Friday when completing a £17.5million move from the Clarets last Friday but is yet to make an appearance for David Moyes’ side after signing too late from Burnley to feature in the Hammers’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Ivory Coast international only spent a year with Burnley but was a big hit with the Lancashire club, scoring nine goals in 26 appearances in the Premier League, although Burnley were unable to steer clear of relegation.

As reported by Lancs Live, Cornet returned to Burnley’s Gawthorpe training ground this week to say his goodbyes to Burnley’s players and staff. On Wednesday afternoon, the report states that the former Lyon man was back in Lancashire to speak to players and staff, thanking them for their support during his season with the club.

The report also suggests that while at Gawthorpe, Cornet signed shirts and posed for photographs with young supporters in attendance watching training.

Cornet will hope to make his debut for the Hammers on Sunday afternoon when they take on newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
