Maxol responds to €10 roll fury as shop explains what really happened

A Maxol garage has been forced to respond after a photo that showed a chicken fillet wrap costing €10 went viral.

The Waterford garage has had to clarify the price they charge for the deli counter staple.

Many people have shared their experiences at different garages and shops around the country that have been charging new highs for chicken fillet rolls.

This is exactly what one Twitter user, Dick Mackey, did, as they uploaded a photo of their recent purchase at a Maxol garage on the Dunmore Road in Waterford.

The photo that accompanied the Tweet appeared to show a chicken fillet wrap purchased on Sunday, July 3rd, that cost €10.

Under the Tweet, many users expressed their shock at this seemingly new high for a deli item. Dick also wrote: “For everybody saying I am just as much at fault for paying it; You are correct, but I was hungry.”

The Maxol Group Twitter account also responded to the Tweet and clarified: “Hi all, this is for 2 rolls, the price was €5 for each roll. Thanks.”

In response, Dick said: “No, it wasn't, it was for one wrap. However, I've realised it was probably just a mistake by whoever printed the label. It's easy to happen and I just didn't cop it at the till.”

Sure enough, at the bottom left corner, the section marked “weight/kg” lists the amount of items purchased, which was misprinted to say two.

So, there you have it. The price of a chicken fillet roll hasn't hit that level, yet.
