Maximum Football wrapped up 2025 with the arrival of Franchise mode and a new season of content, but the focus is already shifting ahead. In 2026, the team is aiming for a faster, tighter and more rewarding football experience and that push begins with a new partnership with Open Ocean Games. The studio is now leading development, with the first update from the collaboration set to arrive next month as part of a larger slate planned for the rest of the year.
The team understands that building a deep simulation title with a small group is no small task. Dynasty, Franchise and the customization suite laid a strong foundation, but the strategy now is to narrow the focus. The two main priorities are improving on field intensity by refining the flow and feel of gameplay, and elevating online play so it feels worthwhile for everyone. At the same time, the developers are addressing reported bugs and gameplay feedback from the community.
Plans previously discussed around Backbreaker style physics are no longer moving forward, as that scope proved too large. Instead, the team is concentrating on enhancing the current physics driven engine where momentum, size and angles already play a key role. Stability is another major focus, particularly resolving console memory issues tied to large customization libraries. As a result, roster sharing will not be available for the foreseeable future. The developers have also chosen to center their efforts on the core rule set, meaning alternate formats like Canadian Football will not be added.
The first update of 2026 is set for March 24 and brings several noticeable changes. Broadcast splash screens are being removed to get players into the action faster. Performance optimizations have been made across all platforms for a smoother and more responsive feel. Working alongside Open Ocean Games, the team has also targeted several game breaking issues that have impacted players. Full patch notes will be available on March 24 and more updates and content are planned throughout the year.
