Sheffield Wednesday are the latest English side to consider a move for Motherwell youngster Max Johnston. City rivals Sheffield United and fellow Championship side Luton are already keeping close tabs on the Scotland under-19 cap.
Wednesday have just put a new scouting team in place and they have started work on several targets north of the border. Johnston has impressed on loan in recent games for Cove Rangers and that has brought him to the attention of the Owls.
The League One promotion pushers are looking at the 18-year-old defender as a possible for their development squad, with a view to quickly pushing for a first-team slot. Wednesday are also aware that they could get Johnston on a cut-price cross-border deal as he is out of contract with the Scottish Premiership side in the summer. The Yorkshire side already have a number of Scottish players in their ranks, including former international caps Barry Bannan, Callum Paterson and Liam Palmer.
