Sheffield United, Preston and Luton Town are all keen on Motherwell youngster Max Johnston.
The Scotland under-21 cap is going into the final four months of his contract and is attracting strong interest from the English Championship. The defender caught the eye again midweek as he got Motherwell back to winning ways with a wonder strike in the win over St Mirren. The English Championship trio are all aware Johnston could move cross-border for a six-figure compensation fee come the summer transfer window and that has all seen all three clubs ramp up their interest in recent weeks.
The Lanarkshire club are currently without a manager after sacking Steven Hammell, but it is likely that whoever comes into the Fir Park hot seat will want to try and persuade Johnston to remain. Johnston’s Motherwell career has come to the fore since he was recalled from his successful loan at Cove Rangers in January.
The 19-year-old has already got more than 50 senior appearances under his belt. He had a loan spell at Queen of the South where he impressed with 31 appearances.
