Max George breaks down as he admits stark warning from doctors led him to quit drinking

Max George has revealed his past struggles with alcohol and recalled how heavy drinking took a toll on his liver.

Scared Of The Dark viewers will watch tonight as The Wanted singer, 34, breaks down in tears as he opens up about his battle with booze.

Speaking while filming the Channel 4 show, Max admits he used alcohol to help him 'adapt' to life as a celebrity and confesses to drinking three bottles of wine in one sitting during his 'lowest point ever'.

The 34-year-old - who is in a relationship with EastEnders star Maisie Smith - also reveals he has now quit alcohol and recalls the moment a trip to the doctors prompted him to get sober.

"It was well weird doing that last tour because I’ve never done a tour without being absolutely leathered the whole time," Max tells his fellow Scared Of The Dark co-stars during tonight's show.

"I would always be pissed before we performed. I struggled to adapt so I used to drink to make myself feel like it didn’t bother me."

"It’s quite hard sometimes to differentiate between the anxiety and depression but mine was certainly more the anxiety side which started when the boys got to number one with All Time Low.

"Where I felt like I should be on an absolute high, I felt quite low. I felt really ungrateful because I should have felt the best I’d ever felt in my life, but I didn’t."

According to The Sun, Max continues to tell his co-stars how he felt more confident when drinking but the more he worked, the more he drank.

The Glad You Came singer shares how he regrets bottling his emotions up when hurt - confessing to doing that for 'a long time'.

Max then reveals the point where he realised he had to stop drinking - his birthday two years ago.

He remembers how he celebrated by drinking pints and three bottles of red wine and suffered for a week after his birthday.

The Chasing The Sun hitmaker recalls how a doctor informed him his liver count was 'pretty low' which scared him into make a lifestyle change.

"I’m not messing with my liver. So I stopped," Max tells his fellow celebrities.

The singer, who now hasn't drunk for two years, adds how his late bandmate's health battle and eventual death also contributed to his decision to give up drinking.

Tom Parker passed away aged 33 on March 30 last year, following an 18-month battle with brain cancer – and bravely raised money and awareness of the condition prior to his death.

Speaking on Scared Of The Dark, Max heartbreakingly muses how he doesn't think he'll 'ever be OK' following the death of his friend, and shares how celebrities like Ed Sheeran 'chipped in to help' dad-of-two Tom access treatment prior to passing away.

After sharing his memories of Tom, calling him his best friend, Max then breaks down in tears and is comforted by football legend Paul Gascoigne.
