Max & Chloe reportedly set to reunite in Life is Strange: Reunion

Everyone’s favourite blue-haired, beanie-donning, punk-loving, lesbian, Chloe Price, is set to return in the sixth entry of the Life is Strange franchise, Life is Strange: Reunion, at least, according to a new leak from PEGI.

As the name suggests, Life is Strange: Reunion will reportedly reunite the original duo – Max & Chloe for another mind-bending adventure as a new disaster hangs in the scenic background of Max’s college. The unexpected PEGI leak (now deleted, but available on Reddit) revealed a surprisingly detailed summary of this upcoming Life is Strange title, alongside dropping references to in-game events and a potential release date.

Life is Strange: Reunion is reportedly a direct follow-up to Double Exposure

It seems Life is Strange: Reunion will pick up directly after the events of 2024’s Life is Strange: Double Exposure, which had Max Caufield, now a student at Caldena University, exploiting her new dimensional-shifting power to solve her best friend’s murder.

Reunion will reportedly take place in and around Caldena University, where Chloe arrives, “haunted by nightmares and impossible memories,” to seek Max’s help as a deadly Inferno looms over the campus.

Like previous entries in the franchise, Life is Strange: Reunion is rated “16” and will include themes such as drugs, violence, foul language, and in-game purchases. The latter is seemingly interesting, as the description explicitly mentions the options to purchase new outfits, something that past LiS games didn’t offer.

The listing only mentions the PS5 version of the game, though it did reveal a concrete release date for the same. According to it, Life is Strange: Reunion will be released on March 27, 2026. It seems unlikely that there would be episodic releases like the earlier Life is Strange titles.

Will Life is Strange: Reunion canonize the Bae ending? This action will have consequences

Before delving into Life is Strange spoiler territories, here’s the full leaked summary of Life is Strange: Reunion:

Chloe Price was Max Caulfield’s partner in time: losing her is Max’s greatest regret. Now Chloe has come to Caledon University. Haunted by nightmares and impossible memories, Chloe needs Max’s help. But Max is already in crisis: in three days, a deadly inferno will destroy the campus.”

There’s no doubt that Chloe Price is one of, if not the most, popular Life is Strange characters. However, her return will have dire consequences on the series’ history, most notably leading to the canonization of the bae ending in the first game, in which Max sacrifices Arcadia Bay to save Chloe’s life.

In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, players have the option to choose which ending to go with at the beginning of the game. It doesn’t have any major consequences in the story, and Max is still grieving the loss of her best friend and partner in time, whether her death or an off-putting, out-of-character breakup, but it at least respects the most pivotal choice players make in the first game.

Unless Chloe is just a side character, who only appears in the “bae route” of Life is Strange: Reunion, which seems highly unlikely given the leaked story synopsis, the developers would be canonizing the bay ending from the first game, something that might not fare well with the original fans.

It’s worth noting that Life is Strange is one of the beloved modern video game franchises, though Deck Nine’s recent entries haven’t been received well by both critics and fans alike. If anything, the franchise’s popularity seems to be at an all-time low, despite a live-action TV series officially in development at Prime Video.

To make things worse, Deck Nine have had multiple layoffs, ever since DE came out. As such, the studio’s effort to leverage a fan-favourite character’s popularity as a last resort to revive interest in a dying franchise makes sense, but taking that risk at the cost of disrespecting a huge player base may work against its favour, especially after Double Exposure.
