Maurizio Sarri has previously 'endorsed' £63million Arsenal transfer amid fresh interest

Arsenal are interested in signing Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic if recent reports from Italy are to be believed.

The Gunners are keen to bolster their midfield options, football.london understands and Youri Tielemans is one name that has been heavily linked with a summer move to the Emirates Stadium. The Leicester City playmaker has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract with the Foxes and the north London outfit are said to be 'confident' that they can seal a transfer for the former Monaco maestro in the coming weeks.

Another midfielder that has been mooted as a potential target is Lazio's Milinkovic-Savic. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have reported claims that the Serbian international has emerged as a potential target for manager Mikel Arteta, whose side narrowly missed out on a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The 27-year-old, who is valued between €50million-€70million (£43million-£60million) by CIES Football Observatory, also has just one year left on his deal at the Stadio Olimpico and if Arsenal were able to complete a summer swoop for Milinkovic-Savic, they would be getting a top-class talent if former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri's opinion is anything to go by.

Speaking about the Lazio ace to DAZN (via LazioNews24) earlier this year, Sarri said: "I’ve coached great midfielders, like (Piotr) Zielinski and (Marek) Hamsik, and he’s one of the best. He really is a complete player with great quality."

The veteran coach has also claimed if the Serbian does leave, it won't be to join another team plying their trade in Serie A. “Speaking to the President, I have become convinced that if Milinkovic does leave, and that will not happen easily, he will not remain in Italy,” Sarri told Football Italia last month.
