Mauricio Pochettino sets out Chelsea transfer strategy as Todd Boehly summer aim revealed

Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen the spine of his team once he takes over at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been in the market for a new boss since the sacking of Graham Potter at the beginning of last month, with Pochettino looking set to win the race. Chelsea have endured a dismal campaign as they sit 11th in the Premier League, only hitting the 40 point mark with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Owner Todd Boehly has already splashed over £600 million on signings in his tenure so far, but the squad will need a huge overhaul in the summer to get it ready for the start of the new season in August. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic are just three of a number of big names who could depart West London.

However, despite their enormous spend over the last 12 months, Chelsea are set to be busy with incomings again in the upcoming transfer window, and Pochettino is reportedly targeting three new signings specifically, according to the Daily Mail. The former Spurs boss is looking to improve the spine of his side, starting between the sticks.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has replaced Edouard Mendy as Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper, but in truth, neither are likely to be good enough to take the Blues back to the top. Pochettino is also looking to add to his options in the centre of the park, with a holding midfielder hot on the agenda.

The likes of Moises Caicedo, Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia are among the names to have been linked with Chelsea, as Pochettino looks to provide his compatriot Enzo Fernandez the platform to shine like he did in the World Cup. But perhaps the most important position Chelsea are keen on strengthening is up front, having scored just 34 goals in as many matches this season.

As mentioned, Chelsea's only real recognised number nine (that is fit) Aubameyang is set to leave this summer, while Kai Havertz - who has played their several times this season - is not an out and out centre forward. The Blues have not had much luck with strikers recently but will be hoping that changes in the summer.
