A new goalkeeper is one of the wishes on Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea transfer list and the Blues look to have made their first formal approach to sign one. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy face uncertain futures and it is possible that both depart the club this summer after mixed spells in west London.
Kepa has been the first-choice option in the 2022/23 season, and while he has pulled off some wonderful moments, there have been many occasions where a lot was left to be desired. Mendy meanwhile has struggled with injuries for much of this campaign with a broken finger resulting in him missing much of 2023.

Brentford's David Raya, AC Milan's Mike Maignan, Valencia star Giorgi Mamardashvili and Inter's Andre Onana have all been scouted by Chelsea with the latter emerging as the early favourite. A swap deal involving Kepa was brought forward but quickly rejected by Inter with the added incentive of funds and the Spaniard was also turned down.
Chelsea's pursuit of Manuel Ugarte has seen talk of interest in Onana go quiet, but with that ending late on Sunday evening, talk of a new goalkeeper is back on, however not for Onana. According to La Repubblica, relayed by FC Inter News, Chelsea ‘have made a €60m (£51.8m) offer’ to AC Milan for Maignan.
It is however, noted in the report that Chelsea have set a plan to 'fall back on' which would be signing Onana. Interestingly, the plan if the move for Onana is greenlit, is vastly different as it would involve the Blues loaning out Kalidou Koulibaly to Simone Inzaghi’s side.
The 31-year-old could be one player sold by Pochettino this summer with a mass clear-out expected in west London. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz are a few other marquee stars that could depart from Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2023/24 season.
