Mauricio Pochettino is 7/1 to become Newcastle United manager after his sacking by French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. Real Madrid are the leading favourites at 6/4, while a return to his former club Tottenham Hotspur comes in at 6/1.
Pochettino led PSG to a record-equalling 10th French Ligue 1 title during his first full season at the helm and also collected the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions. Nonetheless, semi-final and round of 16 exits against Manchester City and Real Madrid respectively in his two Champions League campaigns had left his future in jeopardy.
The 50-year-old had not won a major trophy as a manager before his stint in the French capital but has enjoyed a fruitful career in Spain and England. He guided Southampton to their highest points tally in the Premier League in his only full season at St Mary’s and led Tottenham Hotspur to the UEFA Champions League final in 2018.
Pochettino denied claims that he was offered the Newcastle job in 2020 and it would be a major surprise if the Argentine replaces Eddie Howe in the dugout considering their remarkable improvement under the Englishman.
