Maura Higgins has hit out at online trolls who accuse her of being ‘too thin’ and warns she is never going to change her looks to appease ‘random people’ online.
The 31-year-old reality star exploded into the spotlight in 2019 as a contestant on Love Island where she won praise for her bold confidence and no-nonsense approach to dating.
But as with the perks of fast fame, so come the downsides – and reality stars are often quickly targeted by online trolls who mock their appearance.
Maura says she endures a lot of online abuse in terms of her appearance, saying she get’s targeted over her slim frame – and argues people wouldn’t target others for being overweight.
Opening up to Fabulous magazine, she explained: “I’ve always spoken to my mammy about it and asked: ‘Why is it OK for people to turn around to your face and say: ‘God, you’re too skinny’? Would you ever say to somebody: ‘God, you’re too fat’? No, you wouldn’t.”
Despite often receiving abuse from people online, Maura says the negative comments don’t get her down.
She explained: “I don’t need a boob job, because I feel sexy with the size of my boobs. I’m not going to get one to suit what some random person tells me.”
She continued, somewhat diplomatically, to add: “[Though] if it’s going to help somebody else feel more confident [to have surgery], then work away. I would be petrified of the boob surgery anyway. I watch that [E!] TV show Botched all the time, which puts me off.”
Maura went on to hint she’s turned her back on cosmetic procedures to give her appearance a boost, saying she’s kicked her lip filler habits.
She said: “I’ve not had my lips done in two years. I’m past it now – maybe because I’m older. I don’t need help with my confidence. I don’t feel like [big] boobs make you feel sexy. I think confidence comes from within.”
Elsewhere in her interview, Maura hints that she is still looking for love – after finding fame thanks to her hunt for a partner on Love Island.
However, she also teased that she is hoping to keep her future relationships more private and out of the spotlight following her high-profile romances with Curtis Pritchard, Chris Taylor and Giovanni Pernice.
Reports earlier this month, however, linked the reality bombshell to Global Radio presenter and former I’m A Celebrity contestant Roman Kemp.
The pair are said to have 'grown close' while attending musician Tom Grennan's Brit Awards after-party.
A source told The Sun the day after the bash: "Everyone was talking about how Maura and Roman were flirting and all over each other during the bash.
"They were dancing together and laughing a lot, they seemed to be glued to each other’s sides all night.”
