Matty Healy 'got stuff wrong' and would 'take back' racist remarks after Taylor Swift split

Matty Healy has admitted that he "got stuff wrong" after receiving backlash over his controversial comments.

The 34-year-old told a London audience that he "would take back" his remarks on her weight and ethnicity, including calling her a "chubby Chinese lady."

Speaking to the crowd between songs, Matty said: "I was always trying stuff and some stuff I got right and some stuff I got wrong, but you know what, there's a lot of things that I've said, jokes that I've made, that I would take back. You know what, there's probably a couple of f***ing songs that I'd take back if I had the choice."

He then went on to tell the crowd that his "favourite art" is about making his fans "laugh and feel good."

In May, Matty was slammed for laughing about racist comments made about Ice Spice in a February podcast with Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen.

Appearing on The Adam Friedland Show, Matt was part of a conversation and seen laughing along to comments made about Ice Spice including remarks on her weight and ethnicity. Although Matt never made the comments himself, he was seen chuckling to comments about the US rapper labelling her an "Inuit Spice Girl" and a "chubby Chinese lady".

Following backlash around the podcast episode, Matt later apologised whilst performing at a concert in New Zealand. He told the audience: "I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you.

"Ice Spice I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a d***. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry."

After Matty's rumoured former fling Taylor Swift announced her collaboration with Ice Spice, fans were quick to remind her of the comments from the podcast and Matt's involvement.

One Twitter used wrote: "Taylor correct me if i’m wrong but aren’t you supposedly dating a man who said absolutely despicable & nasty things about ice spice".

Another wrote: "why is Taylor releasing a track with Ice Spice when she's dating Matt who called her horrible misogynistic racist things like a month ago ??????"
