Matty Bondswell awaiting guidance from Newcastle United as EFL clubs eye loan deal

Matty Bondswell is open to a loan exit from Newcastle United before the transfer window slams shut - but admits he will wait for Eddie Howe to steer him in the right direction.

The left-back starred in Newcastle's pre-season programme and made appearances against the likes of Benfica, Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao. Bondswell is back with the Under-21s but is wanted by a clutch of EFL sides for a loan deal.

The 20-year-old spent a spell with Shrewsbury Town last season where the lower league side opted against playing him before Newcastle opted to recall him.

Bondswell told Chronicle Live: "The club know what is best for them. I will listen to whatever they tell me because I know they have my best interests at heart. They want me to do well, just like any other player. Whatever they tell me I will be doing it."

And reflecting on his loan spell at Shrewsbury, Bondswell said: "I learned a lot from it, about what myself and what it takes to break into first-team football.

"Nobody is guaranteed whether you are the best in the world or an up and coming youngster. "I am in a better place now than when I went to Shrewsbury."
