Mattie Pollock on brink of Aberdeen transfer but 2 more targets leave Jim Goodwin waiting amid sack uncertainty

Watford defender Mattie Pollock is on the brink of joining Aberdeen on loan - but two more targets have left them waiting amid uncertainty over Jim Goodwin's future.

Goodwin has been given more time by Dons chairman Dave Cormack after their disastrous defeat to Darvel but he could still go this weekend if his side fail to respond immediately against Hibs at Easter Road. He has some good news though as 21-year-old Pollock has agreed to join and is on his way north to complete a medical.

He is the right-sided defender Goodwin has been desperate for since the start of the window. Pollock was at Middlesbrough and Leeds as a kid before Watford signed him from Bolton in 2021, and has since only made a couple of appearances for Watford but did have a season-long loan spell at Cheltenham Town back in 2021-22.

Goodwin has been desperate to bring in a right-sided defender since the start of the window. He also wants to bring in a striker and a goalkeeper.

All Goodwin’s deals in the January window have been on-loan - as uncertainty remains over his long-term future. They have also offered a pre-contract to Go Ahead Eagles defender Jay Idzes and held talks with Tranmere full-back Josh Dacres-Cogley. But both want to put decisions on hold while their remains uncertainty over the manager’s position.
