Mattie Pollock in bold Aberdeen 'never seen anything like it' claim as he waxes lyrical about Pittodrie fanbase

Mattie Pollock has admitted the Red Army left him in awe after they helped inspire Aberdeen's win over Motherwell on Saturday and put an end to the Dons dismal run of form.

Pollock is one of four players to arrive at Pittodrie since Jim Goodwin was dismissed on January 28 following a Scottish Cup exit and two thrashings in Edinburgh. Barry Robson has been tasked with leading an interim coaching team and got his first three points at his second attempt thanks to a brace from Bojan Miovski and a clinical Luis 'Duk' Lopes header while Pollock had a goal bizarrely ruled out late on after Kevin van Veen's penalty gave 'Well a lifeline.

And you wouldn't have thought the Pittodrie club were in such dire form going into the clash with over 14,000 fans turning out for the visit of the Steelmen, which was something the Watford loanee was quick to highlight during his post match interview. "100 percent," he told Red TV. "The fans are unbelievable. It was one of the first things when I spoke about coming here, I spoke to a few people and like I said, it doesn't half help.

"I've never really played for a team that's had such a fanbase and to hear that behind you the support you get is unbelievable really. It shows because today when they score, they could've come back and hit us but the fans stuck by us and it helped pick us up. I don't think we had another issue for the rest of the game.

"I was gutted the goal didn't count but we needed the win. We were unlucky the other night but we are working hard, we are doing what we need to do and that's a little sign of it today so hopefully we can kick on from that.

"I think the lads needed it, not only that but for me as well to get settled in. The lads have been class, it's a good hard-working group who obviously just couldn't find that little something. It clicked for us today so with time it's only going to get better with the new staff and I've loved every minute. I'm learning so much off the lads, like I say we needed it, we got it. These are tough games because we are expected to go and win, it's a tough place to come but especially because thing haven't been great so I want to just say another bit thank you to the fans for sticking by us really."

Pollock has been handed consecutive starts following his move north, alongside fellow newbie Angus MacDonald in the heart of the Aberdeen backline, and he has promised that the clean sheets and winning runs will return as the confidence-stricken Dons start to find their mojo again.

He added: "If you asked me before the game if I'd take a [0-0] draw or a 3-1 win, I would've took a 3-1 win. Obviously as defenders you pride yourself off of clean sheets but as long as we can get those goals down then the clean sheet's going to come. That was me and Angus' second game together, they are going to come, 100 per cent they are going to come when the lads are putting shifts in like that. We are going to beat teams, we are going to keep clean sheets and I'm just grateful for the win really."
