Since the Queen's death there have been many discussions and debates about the Royal family. Now agony aunt Vanessa Feltz and former journalist Matthew Wright have clashed over their views on the monarchy.
Vanessa and Matthew appeared on the ITV morning show This Morning, where they rowed while talking about the Royal family. They were discussing the news that King Charles is looking to slim down the monarchy and have a less grand coronation, as the Daily Express reported.
Matthew argued it was now time to have a “discussion” about the monarchy’s place in 2022 and whether it’s in fact needed while Vanessa took the opposing view and defended the need for a Royal family. Matthew began his stance with: “Out of respect, I’ve kept my mouth shut for more than a week I’m still doing my best to keep my real feelings subdued."
He added: "I think we should be worrying about people starving before we worry about putting magnificent jewels on people’s magnificent heads. That’s just how I am and it’s never gonna change."
Vanessa meanwhile, defended the Royal family and the King. She said: “For all we know, the new king might be talking about some sort of self-funding, he might be talking about the Duchy of Cornwall.”
Spotting the chance for another dig, Matthew interrupted: “Paying inheritance tax, getting his kids to pay inheritance tax…”
“That’s a different matter!” Vanessa snapped back. “Most people’s private inheritance tax doesn’t get discussed by other people…” But their disagreement continued as Matthew hit back: “Well, they're the only family that is exempt from inheritance tax…which is rather peculiar given they’re one of the wealthiest families in the country!”
The row then became personal as Vanessa took a dig at Matthew's former career as a tabloid journalist. She said: “You’re an adorable guy but you’ve had an excellent career as a tabloid journalist… the way you speak, in headlines, shows why you were such a successful tabloid journalist!”
Before their personal slanging war could boil over, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby decided they’d intervene. “Let me jump in between the two of you just momentarily,” Phillip chimed in. “Crack on again in a second.”
